Just a Short Post - The Science Fiction Novel (Penulitmate Post)

Not too much to say today. I did my weekly shopping trip this morning. All quiet on the Western front. There were lots of nice fruit and veg at Quality Foods. I have to say I was sort of miffed by one of the customers at Cobs Bread. They are basically a counter in the mall. They have red tape on the floor about a foot from the counter to keep a distance between customers and staff. They also have a mark on the floor just beyond the line where they want you to stand. Well, this customer was right up against the counter, her purse sitting on the counter, wandering back and forth as she ordered her bread. Jo was right, when I told her later, that I should have said something to the lady. It's really just common sense, for the protection of customers and staff, especially the staff as you don't want them getting sick!

Well, enough of that. Jo and I are enjoying a Hetty Wainthrop Investigates this afternoon as I type this. Nice light fare.

The Science Fiction Novel - Martha Wells

Martha Wells
Martha Wells is an American author of speculative fiction. She was born in 1964 in Fort Worth Texas. She has published a number of fantasy novels, young adult novels, etc. I have so far heard of her Murderbot Diaries series and have heard it's an interesting series. I've got the first book so far.

a. All Systems Red (Murderbot Diaries #1 / 2017).

"In a corporate-dominated space-faring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid — a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.

But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth."

Tomorrow will be the midweek musical interlude. Take care.
