New Books Update

Credit - Shirien Damra
I'll get back to my look at the Spy Genre in my next post. Today just a quickie post to update some new books I've added to my book shelves.

New Books

1. David Eddings - Queen of Sorcery (The Belgariad #2).

"Legends told of how the evil God Torak had coveted the power of the Orb of Aldur, until defeated in a final battle. But prophecy spoke of a time when he would awake and again seek dominance over the world. Now the Orb has been stolen by a priest of Torak, and that time was at hand.

The master Sorcerer Belgarath and his daughter Polgara the arch-Sorceress were on the trail of the Orb, seeking to regain it before the final disaster. And with them went Garion, a simple farm boy only months before, but now the focus of the struggle. He has never believed in sorcery and wanted no part of it. Yet with every league they traveled, the power grew in him, forcing him to acts of wizardry he could not accept.

This continues the magnificent epic of The Belgariad, began in Pawn of Prophecy, set among strange lands against a background of a war of men, Kings, and Gods that had spanned seven thousand years - a novel of strange fate and a prophecy that must come true!"

b. M.R. Hall - The Disappeared (Jenny Cooper #2).

"Two young British students, Nazim Jamal and Rafi Hassan vanish without a trace. The police tell their parents that the boys had been under surveillance, that it was likely they left the country to pursue their dangerous new ideals. Seven years later, Nazim’s grief-stricken mother is still unconvinced. Jenny Cooper is her last hope.

Jenny is finally beginning to settle into her role as Coroner for the Severn Valley; the ghosts of her past that threatened to topple her, banished to the sidelines once more. But as the inquest into Nazim's disappearance gets underway, the stink of corruption and conspiracy becomes clear . . .

As the pressure from above increases, a code of silence is imposed on the inquest and events begin to spiral out of all control, pushing Jenny to breaking point. For how could she have known that by unravelling the mysteries of the disappeared, she would begin to unearth her own buried secrets?"

c. Winston Graham - Warleggan (Poldark #4).

"Cornwall, 1792-1793. Ross Poldark plunges into a speculative mining venture which threatens his financial security and his stormy marriage to Demelza. When the old attraction between Ross and Elizabeth begins to rekindle itself, Demelza retaliates by becoming dangerously involved with a Scottish cavalry officer."

d. John Ball - Death for a Playmate (also Johnny Get Your Gun) (Virgil Tibbs #3).

"Can a 9-year-old boy be a fugitive from justice? In a masterpiece of contemporary conflict, John Ball spells out, as only he can, what happens when a confused little boy wants to even up a humiliating score by going after his tormentor with a .38 Colt revolver. The scintillating background is California: black-white Pasadena, Disneyland and the Angels' ballpark. DEATH FOR A PLAYMATE is an unusual story of murder, and Virgil Tibbs is back to solve it."

e. Helen MacInnes - Cloak of Darkness.

"From North Africa to New York, from London to Switzerland, the action and suspense of Helen MacInnes' new thriller are superb and unrelenting. The London pub was quiet and friendly-but the message passed was deadly. It was the beginning of a vast conspiracy of underground arms dealing...."

Tomorrow I'll post my mid-week musical melody and then I'll get back to my look at the Spy genre. Please try to enjoy the rest of your week. Stay safe!
