My Ongoing Look at the Mystery Genre - American PI's Part #12

It's a beautiful day today and I should stop procrastinating and rake the back yard. But I'm very good at procrastinating. I'll start tomorrow. I did double check the sprinkler system as it hasn't been going off as it's supposed to. If if doesn't tomorrow, I'll have to get the sprinkler guy back to look it over.

No books finished yet in April although I am making some progress. What I'll do today is continue with my look at the Mystery genre. I've been going through a sub-genre covering American Private Investigators. In my last entry on this topic I highlighted Charlaine Harris' Lily Bard and Harper Connelly mystery series.

American PI's Part 12

I've got two new series in this next selection.

Mette Ivie Harrison
1. Mette Ivie Harrison - Linda Wallheim. Harrison is an American author. She wrote young adult fiction and 2014 began a mystery series featuring Linda Wallheim, Her stories are influenced by her Mormon background. Since 2014, she has written 4 books in this series. I've got the first book and look forward to starting it.

a. The Bishop's Wife (2014).

"In the Mormon community of Draper, Utah, seemingly perfect families have deadly secrets.

Linda Wallheim is a devout Mormon, the mother of five boys and the wife of a bishop. But Linda is increasingly troubled by her church’s structure and secrecy, especially as a disturbing situation takes shape in her ward. One cold winter night, a young wife and mother named Carrie Helm disappears, leaving behind everything she owns. Carrie’s husband, Jared, claims his wife has always been unstable and that she has abandoned the family, but Linda doesn’t trust him. As Linda snoops in the Helm family’s circumstances, she becomes convinced that Jared has murdered his wife and painted himself as a wronged husband.

Linda’s husband asks her not to get involved in the unfolding family saga. But Linda has become obsessed with Carrie’s fate, and with the well-being of her vulnerable young daughter. She cannot let the matter rest until she finds out the truth. Is she wrong to go against her husband, the bishop, when her inner convictions are so strong?"

The remaining books in this series are -
- His Right Hand (2015)
- For Time and All Eternities (2017)
- Not of this Fold (2018)

Lyn Hightower
2. Lyn Hightower - Lena Padget. Lyn Hightower grew up in Kentucky and graduated from the University of Kentucky. I have read two books in her Sonora Blair mystery series and will cover that in my American Cops sub-genre. I'm interested in trying her Lena Padget series of 3 books, written between 1993 - 2005. I've one of the books on my bookshelf at this time.

a. Satan's Lambs (#1 / 1993).

"After her brother-in-law kills her sister and her nephew, Lena becomes a PI and advocate for abused women and children whom the police and the legal system neglect. Hired to find a missing child who has been kidnapped by a brutal cult, Lena races against time to save the child's life. Hightower is the acclaimed author of Alien Blues."

The other books in this series are -
- Fortunes of the Dead (2003)
- When Secrets Die (2005)

Well, there you go, more to follow in my next entry. Enjoy!
